There are 47 students in Ramatoulaye's class in the state-owned school that is close to her home in the Yoff District, Dakar, close to the beach of the Atlantic Ocean. Her father, who worked as a cook, died in 2013. She is being raised together with her 11 siblings by her unemployed mother who makes their living form selling little goods or undertaking occasional works and cleaning. The family lives in a squatter camp, in a hut built from temporary materials at the mercy of the landowner. The neighbors frequently support the family with donating a sack of rice, meat or oil. Ramatoulaye is a very good student. In her free-time she likes to play with a jumping rope. She often helps her mother in the household duties or sells nuts in front of their house and takes care of her siblings. Her favorite food is rice with meat or fish. She likes swimming and is a good swimmer.
